Wedstrijdverslag 08-01-2012 | RCG2 - RC Drachten

Firstly Happy New Year everybody.
This first game of the year was…special. Not even a single point, a 0-0 unexpected, unusual…in a word, exceptional!!! The first time I see such a score.
The score shows that our defense was without any defect during this game and we have to continue like that. In the first half, we could rely on Tjarko who tried many times to break the line and who got every ball in the lineout. Hard tackles in defense and a big fight in the rucks allowed us to dominate a little bit the first but without succeed to score. Even after Tjarko got wounded we could rely on a Reinder with legs in fire!! Sometimes it seems he was fullback!!
The first half was quite hard and we began to lose some of the scrums but we hold it well. After the half-time, we came back with a stronger desire to win and the second half was in favor of Groningen, we got the ball and the opportunity to attack even if we were dominated in the scrum. Reinder continued to play like a fullback, Jean-Michel played as if he was 20, our defense was like a wall, Erik broke the line 2 or 3 times…but we were unable to score. And after a great team effort, I wasted the try of victory dropping the ball just few centimeters above the ground and the tryline…
Despite some unclear decisions of the referee we hold it and continued to attack but unsuccessfully.
The game ended on a 0-0 but I think we deserved to win it. A great teamwork, a great defense and just one thing to say…we have to continue to play like that every week (and score some tries also).
